Bartimaeus

Mark 10 :46-52

Bartimaeus was a blind man who lived in Jericho. He had no other means of livelihood than begging on the roadside. One day, he heard a commotion and asked what was going on. He was told that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. Bartimaeus had heard of Jesus and his power to heal the sick and the lame. He decided to seize this opportunity and call out to him for mercy.

He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” He did not care about the crowd that surrounded Jesus. He did not let their rebukes and warnings silence him. He knew that this was his only chance to see again. He cried out louder and louder, until Jesus heard him and stopped. Jesus asked his disciples to bring Bartimaeus to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus replied, “Rabboni, I want to get my sight.” Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has healed you.” Immediately, Bartimaeus  got  healed  and followed Jesus along the road.

This incident  shows us the power of faith and persistence in prayer. Bartimaeus did not give up on his desperate need. He did not let the crowd discourage him or distract him from his goal. He recognized Jesus as the Son of David, the Messiah can heal him.
