Philemon

The Epistle of Philemon is one of the short epistles in the New Testament. This epistle is also known as the Prison epistle along with Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. They are known as prison epistles because it was written from a Roman prison while the apostle Paul was imprisoned for the gospel.

This epistle is written to Philemon and the house church in Colossea which used to gather at Philemons’ house. But this epistle is more of a personal epistle to Philemon.

Would like to mention one thought on Philemon in this devotional, that’s one of the characters of Philemon.

For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother. Philemon 1:7

Philemon refreshed the hearts of the saints, Philemon was a rich man in Colossea. He owned several slaves, which was common during his time. He also was having a congregation in the house. He must be having a loving heart for others. He has shown hospitality to the apostle Paul and others. I don’t think he was an arrogant, proud rich man but a godly man who used his wealth also for God’s kingdom. May God help us to refresh the hearts of the saints with our given material blessings.
