Romans 6
It’s been a while since I wrote my last post. I’ve been reading the book of Romans, chapters 6-8.
Although I have been reading these chapters for a few years, they have started to minister to me more personally these days. I will be posting more thoughts on these chapters later, but I would like to add a few thoughts here:
These chapters focus more on the sanctification of the justified. Apostle Paul explains the doctrine of justification by grace through faith in chapters 1-5, and I think he gives equal weight to the doctrine of sanctification. That’s why we read more about sanctification in chapters 6-8. Every believer in Christ has to grow in sanctification.
Here are a few thoughts that have helped me in my daily living/sanctification:
- Dead to sin but alive to God: “So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:11)
I will be posting on this verse later since more study has to be done on it. A believer has to count themselves dead to sin while also counting that they are alive to God. We have to be inactive for sin and active for God.
- Present your members (parts of your body) as slaves of righteousness: “I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.” (Romans 6:19)
In Romans 12:1, we are told to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. There is a great need to honor and glorify God through our bodies.
- We should be instruments of righteousness: “Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” (Romans 6:13)
