When a malicious plan backfired.

Daniel was a foreigner in Babylon, yet he found favor in the eyes of its kings. His unwavering devotion to God, marked by deep faith and reverence, set him apart. Because of his integrity and wisdom, Daniel was appointed as one of the three top administrators overseeing 120 satraps across the kingdom. He distinguished himself above all others, for “an excellent spirit was in him,” and the king planned to set him over the entire realm (Daniel 6:3).

But envy soon crept in. The other officials and satraps conspired to find fault in Daniel’s conduct. Yet they came up empty-handed—he was faithful, and no error or corruption could be found in him. Frustrated, they concluded, “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.”

Driven by jealousy, they persuaded the king to issue a decree: for thirty days, no one in the kingdom could pray to any god or man except the king himself. Anyone who violated this law would be thrown into the lions’ den. Unaware of their true intent, the king agreed.

Daniel’s prayer life was no secret—he prayed to God three times a day, with his windows open toward Jerusalem. Even after the decree was issued, Daniel remained faithful. He went to his upper chamber, knelt down, and prayed just as he always had. His enemies were watching. They reported his actions to the king.

King Darius was devastated. He admired Daniel and did not want to harm him. All day he sought a way to rescue him, refusing food and sleep, but the law could not be revoked. Under mounting pressure, he reluctantly ordered Daniel to be thrown into the lions’ den.

That night, the king could not sleep. At dawn, he rushed to the den and cried out in anguish, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” To his overwhelming relief, Daniel answered. He was unharmed—protected by God.God sent an angels and shut the mouth of the lions.
Overjoyed, the king ordered Daniel to be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on him.
the king commanded, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions—they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces.
