Abide in Christ

John 15

One of the “I am” sayings in the Gospel according to John is “I am the vine, and you are the branches.” This is recorded in the Gospel of John, chapter 15. The branches should abide in the vine and bear fruit. If the branches do not bear fruit, they must be cut off by the vinedresser and thrown into the fire.

Jesus made this discourse after the Lord’s table, where Judas left the dinner to betray Jesus. So these verses also relate to Judas. Judas was with Jesus for the last three years, but he did not abide in Jesus and did not bear fruit; instead, he betrayed Jesus and is going to lose his soul.

As Christians, it is our duty to abide in Christ all the time, just as a branch remains in the vine. Separation from the vine will make the branch lifeless. Therefore, we should remain in Christ, bear fruit, and glorify God.
