Matthew
The Sermon on the mountain is the most known Bible passage among non- Christians. Even some of them have written books on the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said during this Sermon on the Mount – “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” The kingdom of God is one of the major teachings of Jesus Christ. He spoke more about the kingdom of God and also he spoke many parables on the kingdom of God.
Jesus’ forerunner John the Baptist proclaimed, “Repent the kingdom of God is at hand.” (Matthew 3:2) Jesus said – “But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” (Luke 11:20) The kingdom of God is both a present and future reality.
Jesus wants His disciples to seek His kingdom as a top priority. “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:31-33)
It’s very easy for any of His disciple to anxiously worry about what to eat, drink, and wear. In the midst of all these worries anyone can miss out the main purpose of his life. That’s why Jesus said “Seek His kingdom first.” After, all these needs will be met by Him.
The topmost priority of a Christian is to seek His Kingdom first. The Greek word used for first is – protos. That word comes with a force of priority. That is the top priority of a Christian disciple. He has to diligently seek God’s Kingdom.
